O Death, Where is thy Sting?

The fear of death, both temporal and eternal has subjected people to untold fear, great concern and agony. Only God can reveal the measures humans take to extend their time on earth; ranging from anti ageing cosmetic activities to advanced medication, many of which can have detrimental side effects. Many have resorted to terrible and unimaginable diabolical spiritual activities and sorcery leading to the shedding of human blood, membership with secret cults etc. Some have even gone as far as getting into a covenant with the devil to preserve their life here on earth. Indeed, death is a scary concept even to the physically and spiritually strong ones!

The sting of death is sin (I Corinthians 15:56) : the pain of death lies in the harrowing and devastating effects of sin. Inevitably, the wages of sin is death (Romans.6:23), sin is spiritually toxic and it eternally inflicts its effect on a soul. But thanks be to God who gave his only begotten son, who was made sin (personified) 2 Corinthians 5:21 to put an end to the body of sin. One of the key reasons Jesus Christ endured the cross was to ensure sin was judged and sentenced to death. There, he liberated us from the power of sin, for he shall save his people from their sins Matthew 1:21 and his resurrection empowers us to walk in newness of life Romans 6:4.

The cross at Calvary remains a turning point for all souls. In addition to putting an end to the power of sin, we equally died with him! For it is appointed unto man once to die and after this is the judgement (Hebrew 9:27). Therefore we are dead and as such we can comfortably say “O death where is thy sting” . . .because we already died! Hence Apostle Paul could say he was crucified with Christ yet he is alive. . . .living on substituted life Galatians 2:20.

TODAY, if any man will believe in the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ on the cross and trust in him for the salvation of his soul, then such a one can cry loud and clear – O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory? The cross has stripped death of its power, namely sin, and victory is guaranteed for all who come to God through Jesus, specifically through the process of the cross which remains the power of God unto salvation!
